WILLIE 'WOO WOO' WONG PLAYGROUND

SAN FRANCISCO, CA

UDCE provided full site civil engineering for the renovation of Willie ‘Woo Woo’ Wong Park and Playground, one of Chinatown’s few, and therefore heavily-used, outdoor recreation areas. The existing park consists of three levels – an upper court, a middle playground, and a lower clubhouse, spanning 40 vertical feet of grade change. CMG Landscape’s design integrated the levels with bridges, slides and slopes, increasing the usable area for fitness and recreation. Chinatown’s cultural and historical legacy is featured prominently throughout the playground with custom-designed equipment by Earthscape Play.

The layout was developed through a community engagement process that included public meetings, focus groups, and dialogues with community organizations and leaders.
