PARK BLVD SAFE ROUTE TO SCHOOL

OAKLAND, CA

UDCE provided civil engineering to the City of Oakland Department of Transportation to implement its Safe Routes to Schools project along Park Boulevard at two major intersections. The primary objective was to provide safer crossings for students. The intersection of Park Blvd/ E 38th St/ 13th Ave and Greenwood Ave was realigned with major curb work to a typical four-legged, rectangular layout, eliciting slip turns and unprotected crossings. The intersection of Park Blvd/ Grosvenor Pl/ Alma Pl and Excelsior Ave received widened sidewalks and medians to shorten pedestrian crossing distances. The outbound Excelsior leg was converted to a bike-only inbound approach. The project included installing a new traffic signal at Park Blvd/ 13th Ave/ Park Blvd Way, and modifying the existing signal at Park Blvd/Excelsior Ave/ Grosvenor Pl/ Alma Pl.
