UDCE served as Civil Engineer for the MLK Jr. Way and Peralta Avenue Improvements master plans and then led the design team through the preparation of construction documents including field survey, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and electrical engineering for street lights. Master planning included base mapping and planning-level opportunity/ constraints/ prioritization to identify development areas.
Streetscape improvements for Martin Luther King Jr. Way stretched from 32nd to 35th St. and included modification of traffic signals at the 34th St intersection as well as restriping from West Grand Ave to 40th Street to change lane configuration from 4 through lanes to 2 through lanes with a turning lane, and added Class II bicycle lanes on both sides of the street. Peralta Streetscape improvements stretch from 7th St to 10th St and from 32nd St to Haven Street.
Streetscape improvements for both locations included construction of bulbouts, sidewalk, curb and gutter and ADA ramps; installation of pedestrian lights, bike racks, and benches; landscaping including tree planting and plated areas; grinding and paving with new striping, pavement marking, and signage; new storm drain, drainage connectors and drainage inlets; bus stop relocations; and adding Class II/III bicycle lanes and turning
lanes.
