ELINOR FRIEND PLAYGROUND AT ZOO
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
This new state-of-the art playground accommodates over 300,000 children of all ages and abilities who visit the San Francisco Zoo each year. It is comprised of three distinct bio-regions which take their themes from specific ecosystems and appeal to specific age groups: a River Play Area for toddlers, a Polar Zone exploration space for pre-schoolers, and a Banyan Tree climbing structure for pre-teens.
UDCE’s civil engineering work included preparation of low-impact-design stormwater management, asphalt repavement, and resilient surfacing for custom play structures. This project required close coordination with the Mayor’s Office on Disability, and our hustle allowed the project to meet its 12 month construction window.
